The Lami-Lamihan Festival 2027 is expected to take place in June 2027 in Lamitan City, Basilan. The festival is one of Basilan’s most important cultural celebrations and highlights the traditions, craftsmanship, and heritage of the Yakan people, one of Mindanao’s major indigenous ethnolinguistic groups.
The term “Lami-Lamihan” is a Yakan expression associated with merrymaking, celebration, and joyful gathering. According to local tradition, the name of Lamitan itself was derived from the word “Lami-Lamihan” after Spanish explorers reportedly encountered Yakans celebrating a festival in the area.
Today, the festival promotes Yakan culture, Christian-Muslim harmony, and community unity through street dancing, cultural presentations, traditional weaving displays, and civic activities.

The modern Lami-Lamihan Festival began in 1983 through the initiative of former Lamitan mayor Wilfrido Furigay. The celebration was created to preserve and promote the traditions of the Yakan community while encouraging peace and cultural harmony among Christians, Muslims, Yakans, and Tausugs living in Basilan.
The festival is also connected to the feast of Saints Peter and Paul, traditionally celebrated on June 29, which explains why many festival activities are held during the final week of June.
Today, the event is recognized as one of Basilan’s premier cultural festivals and continues to showcase the colorful traditions of Lamitan City.
Festival contingents perform dances inspired by Yakan traditions while wearing colorful handwoven attire and traditional accessories. Cultural presentations often feature indigenous music and local instruments.
The Yakan people are widely known for their intricate weaving traditions. Festival exhibits commonly showcase handwoven textiles, crafts, and traditional garments produced by local communities.
Horse races, parades, concerts, food fairs, and civic celebrations are also part of the annual festival activities.
